(Video) The Future of MMA – Child Abuse or Great Parenting?

(Video) The Future of MMA – Child Abuse or Great Parenting?: "

The future of MMA-is it child abuse or great parenting? They say parents often reproduce themselves, or even live vicariously through their children, and the video below may be a great example of either, depending on your view. So what do you think? At what age should kids be allowed into MMA like the big boys? How is it any different than young kids playing football or baseball. There have been many tragedies where young athletes become injured or even killed in sport due to contact at a young age. Why should MMA be any different? Just have them put the pads on and go at it just like little league or pee wee football. Right? Leave your comments…

Updated: Liddell-Franklin Likely for June, White Issues Response: "

The rumblings of the UFC counter programming Strikeforce got much stronger today when it was reported that Chuck Liddell would be facing former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin at UFC Fight Night on April 17 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Liddell was originally reported to be facing Tito Ortiz at UFC 115 but according to Fighters Only, Ortiz is dealing with something that may significantly impact his future as a fighter and it’s not an injury.

Update: 2:38 PM: Sherdog.com and MMAJunkie.com are now reporting that the bout between Liddell and Franklin will now take place at UFC 115 in June, not the rumored show for April 17 in Nashville, Tennessee.

Update: 8:00 PM: UFC president Dana White has now posted a response on his Twitter saying, “Not true! We are doing Couture vs. Franklin, not Chuck.” Stay tuned for more.

UFC Quick Quote: Frankie Edgar is used to fighting outside -- though it usually goes down at the Jersey Shore

UFC Quick Quote: Frankie Edgar is used to fighting outside -- though it usually goes down at the Jersey Shore: "

'It's great to be recognized by the UFC as the No. 1 contender. I put a lot of work into this. It's midnight right now and I left my house at 5:30 in the morning and I won't be home until after midnight. I work hard and I think I deserve it... By the time nighttime rolls in Abu Dhabi (the card begins at 9 p.m.) it should be a comfortable temperature... Being in the desert, it might be a little drier than I'm used to. But I'm going to go out there 10 days beforehand to adjust... I've fought outdoors before, just mostly in Seaside.'

The challenger to UFC lightweight champion B.J. Penn's crown at UFC 112, Frankie Edgar, talked to APP.com about his number one contendership status and the potential obstacles that fighting outside in Abu Dhabi can present. While some people believe that Edgar isn't quite deserving of a title fight at this point, "The Answer" trusts in his abilities and feels as though the shot is rightfully his. And though UFC 112 is set to take place outdoors on April 10 in Abu Dhabi for the first time in the promotion's history, Frankie says the adjustment won't take much getting used to as he has already thrown down under the moonlight before... though most of the action has taken place in Seaside Heights. So will fighting outdoors be a problem for either guy in the lightweight title bout? And if so, who has the advantage in previous outdoor fighting experience -- B.J. Penn in his tropical paradise of Hawaii, or Frankie Edgar getting dirty at "The Shore?"

Herschel Walker Signs with Strikeforce: "

Herschel Walker47-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL running back Herschel Walker has signed on to make his MMA Debut with Strikeforce, MMA Fanhouse today reported citing Strikeforce director of communications Mike Afromowitz.

“This isn’t a publicity stunt or a gimmick,” said Afromowitz. “Herschel Walker has tremendous athleticism, and he has always shown that off the gridiron. He’s accomplished a lot in his life and in the world of sports. His accomplishments speak for themselves, and we hope that his athleticism can transition into a successful MMA career.”

According to the report, Walker will “immediately enter an 8-to-12 week training camp with the American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, Calif.” before likely debuting with Strikeforce in 2010.

A running back at the University of Georgia, Walker won the 1982 Heisman Trophy and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. Walker then spent 12 seasons in the NFL from 1986 to 1997, going to the Pro Bowl in ‘87 and ‘88 and became one of the all-time leaders in total yardage in the league.

A sixth-degree black belt in tae kwon do, Walker announced during a November 2007 appearance on HDNet’s Inside MMA that he was planning his first MMA bout.

Rampage Jackson is going to piss on Rashad Evans if he keeps on barking

Rampage Jackson is going to piss on Rashad Evans if he keeps on barking: "

ufc 71 Rampage on Chuck

The former light heavyweight champion is still ranting about a fight that now looks like it may never happen (legally):

“[Rashad] is probably happy as hell that I took this movie instead of whoopin’ his ass and he’s trying to play it up like he’s not. That’s all he is, he’s all talk. I did a show with the guy for six weeks, I know what he is. He’s all talk, it’s all show. If there wasn’t cameras or stuff around or nobody to grab his ass he wouldn’t do half the things that he did. Now he’s talking all hard, like he’s gonna hit me in the face? All he’s doing is really pissing me off more and more. I will go to Rashad’s house, knock on his door, drag his ugly ass out into the yard, let him play with his nipples first and knock him the fuck out. Like Rashad says, we’ll do the fight for free. I want him to put his money where his mouth is so I can knock his teeth out and give him some change, the boy needs a change, his mouth is too big but he ain’t nothing. The boy ain’t fought the people I’ve fought, he ain’t got the experience I’ve got. He’s barking up the wrong tree so he’s gonna get pissed on for real.”

Stick around to see how the drama continues to cascade. A golden shower appears incapable of dousing this fire anytime soon.

UFC 108: Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort agree to fight in Las Vegas on Jan. 2

UFC 108: Anderson Silva vs Vitor Belfort agree to fight in Las Vegas on Jan. 2: "

anderson_silva_vitor_belfor

Move over Dan Henderson and Nate Marquardt … it looks like Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has finally decided on the next middleweight contender to challenge its reigning division champion, Anderson Silva.

Los Angeles Times reports that former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort has verbally agreed to saunter into “The Spider” web at UFC 108, which is scheduled to take place from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Jan. 2, 2010.

Henderson actually appeared to be the front runner to challenge Silva after his most recent — and emphatic — victory over Michael Bisping at UFC 100. Company president Dana White indicated that it was enough to earn him another crack at the Brazilian; however, his manager, Ed Soares, made the case that Henderson should take on Nate Marquardt first to determine a clear-cut contender.

That now appears to be the plan. And it’s likely that the recent addition of Belfort to the 185-pound roster had a lot to do with it.

“The Phenom” is coming off a first round destruction of former division champ Rich Franklin on Sept. 19 in Dallas. The stoppage — coupled with his two devastating knockout wins under the Affliction banner — were enough to convince White that “The Old Vitor” is back and ready to face his fellow countryman.

It’s a tall order, considering Silva hasn’t really lost in more than five years (sans a disqualification loss to Yushin Okami in 2006), and he’s essentially obliterated the middleweight division since entering the Zuffa fold in mid 2006.

In fact, he’s been so good that White and Co. have started to match him up against 205-pound fighters to give him more of a challenge. He passed with flying colors, sending former champion Forrest Griffin running for the hills and pasting James Irvin with a highlight-reel, fighting-ending combination.

Silva has not had a solid (perhaps trademark is a better term) performance in the middleweight division since he submitted Henderson at UFC 82: “Pride of a Champion” back in March 2008. He’s had two forgettable — albeit winning — fights against Patrick Cote and Thales Leites since that time.

It’s safe to say that the promotion is looking to Belfort to bring the excitement back to the middleweight division … win, lose or draw.

UFC 108 is expected to serve as the promotion’s traditional “year-end” event because the Christmas holiday falls on the last weekend of 2009. No other potential match ups are known at this time; however, UFC typically likes to go out with a bang so expect more goodness in the near future.
